Technical terms
Terahertz band: Electromagnetic frequencies from 0.1 to 10 THz, offering ultra-wide bandwidth but subject to high path loss and atmospheric absorption.
Small-scale fading: Rapid fluctuations of signal amplitude caused by constructive and destructive interference of multipath components over short distances or time scales.
Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS): A planar metasurface composed of programmable elements that can steer or focus incident waves to enhance coverage and mitigate blockages.
Alpha-mu distribution: A flexible statistical model used to characterise fading amplitude variations, encompassing a range of propagation environments by adjusting shape and clustering parameters.
